Digital Driver’s License for Heavy-Goods Logistics

BigMove AG Gets Ready for the Future

Garching – July 16, 2019 – BigMove AG is going digital when it comes to qualification certificates. All drivers in the heavy-goods network will gradually be issued with personal driver cards in bank card format. Alongside general and personal information, the cards also come with a QR code – which is the linchpin of the industry’s new card system.

The QR code, which can be read using any smartphone or tablet, stores the personalized work- and safety-related data for the driver concerned. Individual licenses for the driving and operation of vehicles and machinery can be retrieved within seconds, as can proof of training and qualifications. Thanks to the information in the QR code, the driver card effectively functions as a digital driver’s license as per German occupational health and safety legislation (Betriebssicherheitsverordnung).

BigMove AG believes that the launch of the new system will boost transparency. All authorizations to operate heavy-goods vehicles are accessible immediately and can be proven right away by drivers. This is particularly relevant for occupational health and safety inspections at the point of loading/unloading, but also for police traffic stops, with digital documentation becoming increasingly accepted by the authorities.

BigMove AG keeps the stored information up to date. It maintains the documentation with a specially developed software program, ensuring that driver data is always current.

“We believe that the launch of the new digital driver’s license will boost transparency, especially in terms of the safety of heavy-goods consignments. The card, which will be carried by all our drivers, makes all key information accessible right away,” explains Olaf Beckedorf, CEO of BigMove AG.

This pioneering project is scheduled for completion by the end of the year, by which time all 1,000 BigMove AG drivers should have been issued with their personal digital driver’s license.
